
Barbara has been a Lecturer in the Writing Program and English Department at Middlebury College in Vermont, USA since 1989.
She teaches undergraduate courses in creative writing, composition, arts writing, and contemporary Ireland literature and film.
An active implementer of new media and Web 2.0 technologies into college literature and writing classrooms since 2001, her special interests include the multimedia essay as a means of academic discourse and social software as a vehicle for personal expression, community-building, and student-centered learning. Since 2004 she has kept a professional blog to explore the pedagogical, philosophical and theoretical underpinnings to the emergent learning outcomes in her uses of digital and communication technologies in the classroom. Barbara has written and presented widely about the impact of social software and multimedia authoring on education, and she sits on boards and advises educational organizations on 21st century teaching and learning.
